Independent project

Mandarin Orbit exists because I needed it too.

I am learning Chinese, and I kept running into a simple problem: I could recognise a word in a lesson and then discover that, as soon as the clue changed, the same word suddenly felt much less familiar.

Why I built it

I was not looking for another course. I wanted somewhere I could take the vocabulary I was already learning and revisit it from different directions: meaning, sound, Pinyin, Hanzi, tones, writing and sentences.

I started by building a tool for myself. When it grew into something that might be useful to other learners too, I decided to share it.

What I want it to remain

Mandarin Orbit should remain simple to open and use, free, free from mandatory accounts, free from advertising and flexible enough to fit different ways of studying.

I do not want to turn it into a universal Chinese course or pretend an app can replace teachers, study, conversation and real-world practice. I want it to do the job it was built for โ€” and do it well.

Who is behind it

I am Riccardo Mechi, an independent developer and Chinese learner. Mandarin Orbit sits at the intersection of those two things: what I am learning as a student and what I can build as a developer.

Language corrections, bug reports and practical suggestions are welcome at support@mandarinorbit.com.

Supporting development

Mandarin Orbit remains free. If you find it useful and want to support its development, you can make a voluntary contribution. Contributing does not unlock content, features, points or in-app advantages; it simply helps me keep working on the project.

PayPal opens as an external service. The Mandarin Orbit website does not directly collect payment details; contributions are handled by PayPal under its own terms and privacy notices.
